January: Body Awareness

Children need to develop control, understanding, and awareness of their own bodies because, as author Ann Henderson states, “Children's ability to reach out beyond themselves to learn more about the world rests on their confidence and self esteem, and these in turn depend on children feeling comfortable with themselves.”2

As dancers this is especially important because the body is a dancerʼs main tool in practicing his or her art. Knowing how the body moves, how body parts work, and the many different ways a body can move, as well as being able to isolate or combine different movements, are all important not only for the gross motor skill development of a child, but in the creation of a dancer. As Bill T. Jones and Susan Kuklin remind us, “Children need to know that their bodies are wonderful instruments that can bring joy to themselves and to others—movement is good for us.”3

Ballet 2, 3 & 4 classes will be learning more in detail about dancers anatomy.

No Classes January 15 & 16:  Martin Luther King day and No school on 1/16/18

Because of the low number of classes this month, you may pay $5 less than your usual fee, so $20 instead of $25, $25 instead of $35.

Simple Gifts Dance Weather Policy:  If Upper Sandusky Schools should close for weather, dance classes will be canceled.

*Delays will not affect classes*

If your dancer's class is canceled due to weather, they are welcome to attend an age appropriate alternate class time.

Cold and flu season is upon us, out of respect for other students and teachers, please keep your dancer home if they are sick.
